Hey guys.I'm really sorry for the super late update.Anyways,here are a few of the activites we have carried out so far.

JULY

For the month of July we had our installation where the BOD for the term 2010/2011 were elected.During the award ceremony,we won the best club service director and best treasurer award.But we failed to defend our title Best Club Award which we won 2 terms ago.We kick started our term by opening up stalls during our school kokurikulum day.Also we sold dedications as a part of our fund raising project.

AUGUST

For the month of August we painted our school tennis court.It took us a total of 3 days(21-23) to complete the painting.The outcome was just awesome.Next we had our Merdeka badge sale in conjungtion with our nation's 53rd Independance Day.Each badge is sold at a price of RM4.After that,we also organised a farewell party for our seniors to give them a proper goodbye.=).Besides that,the ICC of Klang organised the anual Merdeka Walk which was also held in conjungtion with our nation's Independance Day.A total of 16 member from HSK attended this event.The event kick started with the gathering of all the 9 schools.We walked around Klang Town sharing the spirit of 'MERDEKA'.The event ended with speeches from the Chairperson of ICC,Sukhdip Singh and performances from other schools.

SEPTEMBER

For the month of September,we will be having a visit to the Paws Animal Welfare Society(PAWS) where interactors will be carrying out voluntary work.We will also be supporting the projects of other schools like SMK Raja Zarina who will be carrying out a photography competition where interactors will have to submit a photo about their best friendship moment.Also,we will be supporting SMK ACS by attending the mooncake festival organised by Interact Club of ACS.

REMINDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The Interact Club Of HSK has already selected their country and theme for their IU DAY.The country selected is India-Pakistan and the theme will be CROSSING BORDERS!!

Seminar SPM and STPM

On Sunday, the 11th of October 2009, the Interact Club Of High School Klang organised a seminar mainly seeking Science students who will be sitting or have already sat for SPM, STPM or with any other equivalent qualifications.

Fellow interactors arrived much earlier at the HICT Auditorium, where the seminar was decided to be held, in order to take care of final preparations.It was not long before the students started arriving. Interactors as receptionists registered their names and asked them to help themselves to the available fliers based on the field of study they were interested in.

The seminar was slightly delayed due to some technical difficulties and began at about 9.30a.m Among the VIPs present were Rotarian Gerard and Dr. Krishnan who were kind enough to share their experiences in their respective careers as well as advise the students on education.Soon after their talks, it was time for a short break where the students helped themselves to the food and beverages being served right outside. A number of them had a wonderful time mingling with one another as they ate.

Once all of the students were back inside the auditorium, the main part of the seminar on tertiary education commenced. Talks were presented regarding opportunities in the field of medicine, pharmacy, piloting, foundation in Science, dentistry and engineering available in universities abroad such as in Indonesia, India and the Philippines.They were given by both Pn. Sarnum and Rotarian Richard, whom this seminar project was originally under. Their talks were tremendously enlightening and powerful indeed.

Although the number of students who successfully attended the seminar was far less than expected, as a majority of them were increasingly busy with extra tuition classes and other crucial preparations for their upcoming examinations, it did not stop the seminar from being carried out as planned. For those who did make it, it was without doubt that they benefited greatly from the seminar, which was free of charge, and did not leave the auditorium empty-handed

District Govener Visit

On Wednesday, the 4th of November 2009, interactors from their respective schools gathered in the HICT Auditorium at about half past three in the afternoon for the long-awaited visit of the District Governor.

Soon after the arrival of District Governor Leslie Salehuddin, the formalities were carried out accordingly, namely the singing of the national anthem and a few given speeches.The auditorium was noticeably crowded with students who willingly sacrificed their time and energy to attend the event which began shortly after school hours.

An outstanding opening performance by a few of our fellow interactors really got the event starting well. The main purpose the gathering was for the presidents of the Interact Clubs of each school to present their reports on the club activities they have planned and carried out so far to the District Governor.

Every one of the club presidents took their turns in explaining all of the major projects which they have successfully made possible during their term, from car washes to redecorating certain parts of their school to even those that were sports-related, accompanied by slide presentations. Several Interact Club members and other students from their schools gladly participated in all of the activities organised and contributed greatly to the tremendous outcome of the projects.

Interactors who crowded the auditorium greatly enjoyed the singing and dancing performances in between the presidents’ reports. After all the presidents have finished, the District Governor was given a hard copy of the reports and then presented his own speech regarding how impressed he was by the Interact Club activities which have been carried out and the various performances that evening. The event ended with a short group photograph session involving everybody who attended. Fellow interactors indeed had remarkably wonderful time during the visit of the District Governor.

Seminar SPM & STPM

The seminar will be help at the HICT Auditorium Hall, Klang, this Sunday, 11th of October'09 from 8.30am-12pm.

This seminar is basically about how you can pursue your tertiary education after SPM/STPM. This seminar is specifically for Form5 and Upper 6 Science Stream students. This helpful seminar talks on topics such as Pharmacy, Dentistry, Medicine, Pilot Training, Engineering, Foundation in Science and so on.

& we know how much you're trying to save for college fee, so no worries bout this event's entrance fee. It's a free-of-charge event to prevent holes in your pockets. This event includes a short refreshment break for you guys to take it all in. The dress code for that day would be either formal wear, school uniform, or smart casual.

Festive Cheers

This year, Festive Cheers was decided to be held at Royal Klang Club on Sunday, the 27th of September. The main purpose of organising this annual event was to provide assistance to the less fortunate and underprivileged families and homes in celebrating both Hari Raya and Deepavali since they were unable to do so due to certain reasons.

Fellow interactors who attended the event pitched in to help make final preparations before the event, which began at 3.00p.m., as well as entertaining the children. There were also interactors who volunteered to perform for the guests by singing.

Rotarians helped to present the collection of hampers including cash to the families, homes and individuals as gifts after giving their respective speeches. The event ended with a group photo session of the guests, Rotarians and hard-working interactors.

Talentime

Interactors in formal attire gathered at the HICT Auditorium on the morning of Saturday, the 26th of September 2009, either as part of the event’s entertainment, or just to witness the participants share their unique and special talents on stage. Talentime was organised as a tribute to the late Yasmin Ahmad, who was a critically-acclaimed multi-award winning film director, writer, and script writer from Malaysia.

The talent competition was named after one of her recent movies. It started at about 9.00a.m. after all the guests had registered upon arrival and took their seats. Soon after the introductions and speeches at the beginning of the event, the performances commenced, either individually or in groups. Several talented performers from their respective schools courageously took turns to shine on stage in the auditorium with an array of impressive performances which included singing, dancing, magic tricks and what not.

Each fine display of talent was being judged by a panel of three who were brought in to narrow it down to five finalists. They were incredibly experienced in the arts, particularly dancing. The crowd of spectators which filled the spacious auditorium was not much of a large one that day.

Nevertheless, the audience was required to take part in deciding who deserved to be the winner of the talent competition by voting for one of the five finalists as soon as they were revealed. Interactors marked their choice on the piece of paper given before the show and inserted them in the provided ballot box before going for break and refreshments.

It was not long until the official counting of the votes was finished and the interactors were called back into the auditorium where the positions of the five finalists were announced. The five finalists were given cash and consolation prizes depending on the number of votes each of them acquired from the audience.

Next, souvenirs were too presented to each of the three judges for their assistance in the competition. Talentime came to an end after the winning group gave an encore performance. Fellow interactors and Rotarians, who undoubtedly enjoyed the wonderful show, left the auditorium accordingly knowing that attending the event was indeed well worth their time.

Repainting School Basketball Court

On the morning of Tuesday, the 22nd of September 2009, our fellow interactors gathered at the school basketball court at about half past eight to get started on repainting the area, unselfishly putting aside their holiday plans to participate in the project.

Our Interact Club decided to work together with the Basketball Club of High School Klang in order to increase productivity and complete the task in a shorter time period. After acquiring the necessary painting supplies for the job, interactors and Basketball Club members began dipping their brushes in the red and yellow paint and worked on renewing the faded paint of the court with as much detail as possible.

Each and every one of them endured the scorching heat of the Sun while slowly painting the lines which run through the place. Some of them took turns continuing from where the previous person left off, since there was a slight shortage of brushes.

While waiting, they held umbrellas to shade the hard workers from the extreme heat. Everybody chatted with one another as they painted. It definitely was not long before the basketball court had a brand new coat of paint.

Cleaning Of The Interact Room

Work began on cleaning the Interact Room on the 29th of August 2009, during the holiday break. Some among our Board of Directors, including our President, gathered at school at about 8.00a.m. and started tidying up without wasting any time.

All of them had to first empty out the old, unused and most probably spoilt documents, files, books, office equipment and other dusty rubbish from the area. The room had been used as a counseling room for extremely long time and our club was fortunate enough to be given the space.

Our interactors were efficient trying to make the room as neat as possible, carrying bits and pieces of trash out of there as well as shifting old furniture. Each of the possibly recyclable items were arranged accordingly outside the room so that they could be dealt with later whereas the rubbish was carefully packed into plastic bags and thrown away.

As for the status of the Interact Room, it still requires a lot of cleaning so the project remains in progress at the moment. With a few more helping hands from our fellow interactors, it is just a matter of time before we make the room not only a more comfortable place to be, but it will also look like new.

Car Wash for Co-Curriculum Day

Our Interact Club made a decision to set up a car-washing service in order to raise funds for the club on Co-Curriculum Day or ‘Hari Ko-Kurikulum’ which was held on the 4th of August 2009.

Before the day arrived, tickets were sold to teachers and students who desired their car to be washed at a remarkably reasonable price. Interactors who previously volunteered to contribute their assistance in the job came to school early that morning with the cleaning equipment they were instructed to bring along, from buckets and cloths to a vacuum.

The car wash began as soon as they were prepared to clean the cars parked at the school parking lot beside the hall. Vehicle after vehicle our interactors washed, and some vacuumed, until each and every one of the cars were as clean as a whistle. The determination and hard work of our interactors ensured that absolutely all the cars were done with by the end of Co-Curriculum Day.

They had tremendous fun while performing the task and it can honestly be said that almost all the customers were satisfied with the results, the spick and span condition of their vehicles when they arrived to pick them up.

Farewell Party

Prescott Hotel was our venue of choice to hold our ‘Majlis Perpisahan’ on the 1st of August 2009 and what a fantastic evening it was. The purpose of this farewell party was to show our tremendous gratitude towards the Board of Directors of 08/09 for all the sacrifices, hard work and dedication that they have put into the Interact Club of High School Klang through the past year.

The dinner function commenced at about 6.00p.m. but quite a number of our current Board of Directors had already arrived there an hour or two before then in order to make final preparations. The rented ballroom was packed with a handful of senior interactors along with invited guests, all of which were either on time for the dinner or fashionably late.

Unfortunately, the teacher advisor of our Interact Club and the invited Rotarian advisors, our supposed guests of honour, were unable to attend our farewell party. The evening began with short speeches presented by both our current and past President of our Interact Club, Choo Kok Sang and Teh Chuan Hoong.

Soon after that, everybody exited the ballroom and into the hallway where a large buffet dinner awaited them. It could be seen from their facial expressions, while they were lining up at the buffet table holding their plates and cutlery, that they could not wait to sink their teeth into the variety of exquisite delicacies which laid before them.

From the main course to the desserts, it was without doubt a truly satisfying meal for those who were present that evening.Immediately after eating, some of our fellow interactors gladly volunteered themselves to perform on stage, namely singing and dancing. Absolutely everyone had an enjoyable time watching and taking photographs of the unique performances which was followed by a short souvenir giving ceremony.

Each of the current Board of Directors took their turns presenting the scented candles to their respective predecessors.The entertainment then continued for a while longer before the farewell party ended with shooting photographs of one another and also the entire group. It was definitely an evening to remember for every individual who attended and had wonderful fun.

Mural Paniting

Work began on the mural in the morning of Saturday, 25th of July 2009 by our interactors from High School Klang who couldn’t wait to get started on the project.

No other murals have been painted on the side of our school hall and our Interact Club was indeed honoured to be the first to press our pencils and brushes against the wide empty wall space available there. Our interactors commenced with painting as soon as the outlines of certain parts of the mural were finished, in order to speed up our progress.

Chatting amongst ourselves really helped pass the time when we were working on the fine details of our mural and so did sharing laughs, which actually strengthened the bond between our interactors.

Despite the fact that all of us attempted our best to finish ourcreation in a day, we unfortunately were unable to do so and had to continue with our work on Tuesday and Wednesday. Everybody agreed that it was not much of an easy task to complete as it of course requires a tremendously immense amount of patience and hard work, and if you are willing to work under the blazing sun while standing on a ladder, all the better.

In the end, we were glad to have put in our time and energy into bringing to life our masterpiece, which really makes a statement.

RRI Walk Hunt

The theme was “Hunting In The Maze Of Riddles” during the Walk Hunt held at SMJK Kwang Hua on the 11th of July 2009.

Fellow interactors from respective schools joined in the fun alongside students from Kwang Hua who had quite a number of teams themselves. After signing in and collecting their Walk Hunt T-Shirts plus a short breakfast which was provided, everybody assembled in front of the stage as instructed for a team role call and to receive a briefing on the Walk Hunt.

It was basically a friendly competition to see which team was able to answer the most questions correctly along with completing the task of gathering a few items listed on the given sheets of paper. Soon after, all of us were crowded around the front gate of the school waiting to be released so that we could begin on the treasure hunt.

The Interact Club of High School Klang sent a few teams to participate in the mentioned competition which involved running around the Bandar Baru Klang area.

The questions were actually clues to a variety of signs visible along the road, mostly belonging to shops, restaurants and what not.Teams were required to write down the name on the sign which corresponds to the clue given in the papers.

It was indeed as tiresome a challenge as it was a mind-boggling con un drum for absolutely everybody involved. As soon as everyone had handed in their question and answer scripts, including the three items as requested in them, they started to head back to Kwang Hua. They were given free lunches and time to regain their energy while awaiting the results of the Walk Hunt.

When it was time, participants assembled once again in front of the stage where the person in-charge revealed the answers to all the questions and awarded the top five.Of the five teams mentioned, one of the teams sent by the Interact Club of High School Klang ended up in second place and was awarded a cash prize of RM200 which will of course be put to good use.

It was without any doubt that every participant who took part in the Walk Hunt had a wonderful time and was glad to have experienced the fun. In a way, everybody is a winner and we definitely hope to be involved in a similar event in the near future.

Kwang Hua Musical Gathering

The hall was occupied by an The hall was occupied by an immense crowd of interactors from several different schools at SMJK Kwang Hua on the 4th of July 2009 from about ten o’ clock in the morning to half past two in the afternoon of that Saturday.

Kwang Hua’s Musical Gathering commenced with an amazing Hawaiian Dance as the opening ceremony. The students who attended were kept as lively as possible by a variety of impressive performances throughout the day such as a magic show, Chinese yo-yo, a dance as well as listening to students who played the flute and the piano.

Somewhere in between there were two games held, of which one of them was won by our very own interactors from High School Klang. At the end of it all, everyone said their goodbyes before declaring the event closed. It could be assured that nobody left the hall empty-handed but instead well-entertained. It was definitely well worth their time and money, including the hard work and put in by the students to make this event such a huge success.

Joint Installation Day

It was another big day at Klang Executive Club on Saturday , the 27th of June 2009 , when the time came for us to have our Joint Installation Day

The day began at about 8.00 a.m. for the incoming Board Of Directors of the Interact Club of school throughout Klang , when they were due to attend a special Leadership Training Seminar . The purpose of the seminar was to make the incoming BOD's aware of the several roles and the cornucopia of responsibilities held by each main post in the Interact Club as well as how to handle their jobs properly .

The talks which were given by a number of Rotarian also educate the student about how leadership is great conseqence and the countless characteristic of a leader , including the way to become a great one . Leadership is often defined not as "power over people" but "power with people" . One of the many things learned was that a respected leader must possess assertiveness , the ability to cooperate with people , honesty and a bunch of other honourable traits .

Soon after the seminar , which lasted about five hours , it was time fir our fellow interactors to arrive at Klang Executive Club marking , the beginning of our Joint Installation Day . As soon as the songs and speeches were done , along with a few short performances , installation commenced .One school after another the otgoing Board Of Director officiallt passed on their posts to the incoming Board Of Directors . More performance by schools took the stage in the middle before proceeding

Among the awards given out during the award ceremony Certificates Of Appreciation and awards for outstanding achievers of SPM / STPM . The crowd of student from High School Klang cheer greatly when it was announced that they Best Club Service Director and Best Editor Award . One of two Best Interactor Awards has also beed received by Teh Chuan Hoong , our outgoing President .Last but not least , our interactors from High School Klang were overjoyed when our Interact Club was dubbed the Best Interact Club for the term 2008/2009 which was accompanied by a huge pewter trophy , Tokens of appreciation were given to soe teachers from few school like Raja Zarina and Sultan Abdul . It was unbelieveable day for everyone involved and we hope for the best this term

Charity Musical Night

On Friday ,12th of June 2009 ,

Charity Musical Night was held at the Perdana Ballroom in Klang Executive Club . The event which everyone had long been waiting for had finally arrived and it commenced at 7.30p.m. .The patron was none other than Yg. Bhg. Datuk Dr. Puraviappan .

Pratice were held the week before to ensure the night would turn out as planned . The teacher advisor of SMK Sultan Abdul Samad took charge to assist in organising the event Charity Muscial Night began with the usual formalities : songs , speeches and what not .

Each school went on stage to do their respective performance that were both impressive and enteraining , all of which really showed how much work and determination had been put in by the student . Our High School Klang students performed their amazing ' peacock dance ' and ' brakedance ' .

Lucky draws were carried out in the middle of the event , before continuing with the rest of the performances . Donations were collected by fellow interactors who went around the crowd in search of generosity . A surplus of about RM 71,000 was made , a remarkably substantial amount which will definitely be put to good use .

However , the event ended about an hour later than the people who attended , who are looking forward to a similar event in the future

In addition to pledging needed funds, leaders urged additional donors and leaders of countries where polio still exists to join them in aggressive push for eradication.

The Gates Foundation is awarding a $255 million challenge grant to Rotary, which Rotary will match with $100 million raised by its members over the next three years. At the same time, the United Kingdom is giving an additional $150 million (£100 million) and Germany is giving an additional $130 million (€ 100 million), both to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). Contributions from the U.K. and Germany over the next five years will not count toward Rotary’s match of the Gates Foundation challenge grant.

As a spearheading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), Rotary’s chief role is fundraising, advocacy and mobilizing volunteers. The announcements came during the Rotary International Assembly, the humanitarian service organization’s annual leadership conference.

“Rotarians, government leaders and health professionals have made a phenomenal commitment so polio afflicts only a small number of the world’s children,” said Bill Gates, co-chair of the Gates Foundation. “However, complete elimination of the polio virus is difficult and will continue to be difficult for a number of years. Rotary in particular has inspired my own personal commitment to get deeply involved in achieving eradication.”

In accepting the Gates challenge, Rotary Foundation Chair Jonathan Majiyagbe said the funding partnership will inspire other polio eradication allies, both current and new, to ramp up their support.

“With the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, we are on the brink of eradicating one of the most feared diseases in the world,” Majiyagbe said. “This shared commitment of Rotary and the Gates Foundation should encourage governments and nongovernmental organizations to ensure that resources and the will of the world are available to end polio once and for all.”

UK International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander said,” This £100 million pledge by the UK Government, combined with the money from our other partners, is a massive boost in the battle to rid the world of the scourge of polio. We have already significantly increased the number of vaccinations for those people most at risk, and there has been real progress in reducing the number of new infections. Now is the time to make the final push to eradicate polio. This investment will ensure future generations in the developing world will no longer have their lives blighted by this crippling disease.”

New funding and government support still required

The polio eradication initiative faces an ongoing funding shortfall that must be closed if eradication is to be achieved. With these new investments, along with contributions received from Canada, Russia, the United States and other donors, the shortfall for 2009-10 is $340 million. Once finalized, the new funding from Germany will further reduce the gap.

“G-8 countries pledged repeatedly to take all necessary steps to eradicate polio,” said Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development. “Germany has contributed significantly to living up to this commitment. We urge other countries to join us in closing the funding gap and ensuring that health workers have the support they need to protect the world’s children from polio.”

Polio has been completely eliminated in the Americas, the Western Pacific and Europe, but the wild polio virus persists in Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and Pakistan, and imported cases from these countries threaten other developing nations. It is in these four countries that the most serious challenges exist, including vaccine effectiveness (India), low vaccination coverage rates (Nigeria), and access problems due to conflict (Afghanistan and Pakistan). Much depends on the countries themselves. Recent progress in key areas has shown that these challenges can be overcome with sufficient national and sub-national commitment.

Launched in 1988, the GPEI -- spearheaded by Rotary, the World Health Organization, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and UNICEF -- has reduced the number of polio cases by 99 percent over the past two decades, from more than 350,000 cases in 1988 to an estimated 1,600 in 2008.

The GPEI partners will use the new polio eradication funds to support a range of activities, including:

National Immunization Days, when countries aim to immunize every child under five years old with oral polio vaccine

Supplemental immunization activities focused on providing extra vaccinations to children in high-risk areas

Research into new vaccines and ways to ensure they are available to vulnerable children

Surveillance activities to detect cases of polio so that progress can be measured and outbreaks contained

WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan said: "Together with enhanced commitment by the last four endemic countries at all levels, the new funding commitments are precisely what is needed to help the governments in these countries overcome the remaining barriers to reaching every child with polio vaccine.”

“Successfully eradicating polio is crucially important, not just to ensure that no child will ever again be paralyzed by this devastating disease, but also to show that today -- in the 21st Century -- we can deliver life-saving health interventions to every single child, no matter where they live, and even in the most difficult and challenging environments,” said Dr. Chan, who in 2008 made polio eradication WHO’s top operational priority.

This is the second challenge grant for polio eradication the Gates Foundation has given Rotary. The first came in November 2007, when Rotary agreed to match a $100 million grant dollar-for-dollar.

Rotary clubs worldwide already are hard at work raising the matching funds for what the organization has named Rotary’s $200 Million Challenge. Since the first Gates Foundation challenge grant was announced, Rotary clubs have raised $62 million in contributions and $11 million in commitments toward the goal. Their enthusiastic commitment was a major reason the second challenge was made and accepted. Rotary also invites the general public to participate by visiting rotary.org/endpolio to learn about polio eradication and contribute to Rotary’s $200 Million Challenge.

Rotary to provide lifesaving cardiac surgery for eight children with congenital heart defects

(Delhi, INDIA - 8 December 2008) – Through Rotary’s Gift of Life program, the National Heart Institute and Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre in Delhi will perform free, life saving open-heart surgeries on eight children this month.

Four of the children are from Arunachal Pradesh, India, including ten-year-old Tamos Sinkum and two-year-old Gejom Bagra, who will both undergo surgery on 09 December. Ten-month-old Tadar and nine-year-old Biku are scheduled for surgery the following week. Kabuuka Emmauel, a sixteen-year-old boy from Uganda, is also scheduled for open heart surgery and valve replacement this month.

Yasodhi Annuthara of Sri Lanka, born on 21 May 08 with a congenital disease, and eleven-year-old Anisha Thapa of Kathmandu, Nepal are expected to reach Delhi next week for open heart surgery.. Two-year-old Sania from Jammu Kashmir, will undergo surgery at Escorts Hospital tomorrow.

According to health authorities, an estimated seven out of 1,000 children in India suffer from congenital heart diseases, yet few can afford the high cost of surgery required for them to live normal and healthy lives.

“The families of these children suffering from chronic heart illness have no monetary resources and would never be in a position to raise enough money for the surgery,” said A. C. Peter, a member of Rotary Club of Delhi East End and the national coordinator of Gift of Life. “Rotary came forward to reach out to the children and their family.”

Launched by Rotary clubs in India in 2002, the Gift of Life project helps hundreds of children born with heart ailments by providing free cardiac surgery, medicine, food, accommodation, hospitality, boarding and lodging. The Rotary Club of Delhi East End, which established its Gift of Life program three years ago, has provided lifesaving surgeries for 300 children over the past three years.

Many children from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh have also come to India and undergone successful heart surgery under the Gift of Life. Peter emphasizes, “This project is a classic example how Rotary can promote peace and understanding between nations through international humanitarian service.”

Rotary clubs in India plan to arrange free surgeries for 100 more needy children. They will continue to work closely with the Delhi, National Heart Institute, Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, and the Indian medical community to achieve this goal.

§ Visited PAWS

On the 8^th of December, MGS held a trip to animal shelter (PAWS) which is located around Subang Jaya. Interactors of MGS invited us in their projects. Around 10 interactors of MGS and 4 interactors of SMK TINGGI KLANG participated in this projects. Interactors rent a bus and it cost RM 15 a person for the bus fare. We arrived at PAWS around 10a.m. We saw many animals such as cats, dogs, and even monkey which is a naughty one. We help them to feed the young with milk, clean their cage, and give medicine to those mammals who are sick. We enjoy playing with the dogs and the mischievious monkey. We also clean the dogs matt, serve them food, and took pictures of it. We also help the owner to lay in some newspaper on the cage. Our activity ends around 12 in the noon. We also donated some money for the needs of the dog. We took a photo group as rememberance.

§ Visit to orphanage home

On the 27^th of December, interactors of High School Klang visited an orphanage home. The name of the orphanage home is TKU Caring Home which is located at Klang Utama. We arrived there around 1.30p.m. The orphan house was having their events on that day. The opening ceremony starts t 2p.m. as we arrived. The opening ceremony started with speech. After the opening ceremony, they are performances by the kids. They dance gracefully. We play with the kids during the games event. We play musical chair, and some games with them. Foods were served during the events too. The event ends at 6p.m. in the evening. We were given souvenirs as an appreciation.

§ Mural Painting

From the 7^th of December 2008 till 2^nd of January 2009, we had our mural painting in our school. We painted the wall near our school canteen. This project took so much time due to dissatisfaction of our school teacher. We painted the wall with other clubs which is the English Language Society Club and the Seni Club. Our I.U Director, Elaine Teh came out with a design that amuse all of us. It was simple and nice. Interactors was having fun too during the projects. Our school teacher bought us pizza and KFC to encourage us.

§ Attended Party Anthony’s Christmas

On the 28^th of December, a Christmas party was held in Sir Anthony’s house to celebrate Christmas. Interactors was enjoying themselves with Christmas mood and was having lots of fun. Foods were served during the party and we enjoyed it.

Rotary Centers create e-learning platform

(EVANSTON, Illinois, USA) - In an effort to maximize interaction and collaboration, Rotary’s innovative peace studies program will develop an e-learning platform to provide greater access and enhanced learning opportunities to Rotary World Peace Fellows and other students around the world.

The announcement was made following a meeting of senior Rotary leaders and senior officials of partnering universities held at the Rotary headquarters in Evanston last week. The two-day meeting was an opportunity to discuss ways to enhance cross-university exchanges and promote the six Rotary Centers for International Studies, which teach peace-making and conflict resolution skills to young professionals at leading universities in five countries.

“The Rotary Centers program has created an innovative network of peace and conflict resolution experts, and we agreed to further strengthen it by leveraging the Centers’ differing strengths and varying areas of specialization,” explains Rotary Foundation Chair Bob Scott, adding that a $20,000 gift from the Rotary Foundation will support the initiative. “This Web-based learning platform will expose all Rotary peace fellows and other students to the program’s comparative advantages and variety of course offerings.”

Tom Woodhouse, director of the Centre for Conflict Resolution at the University of Bradford says the e-learning initiative marks a major move forward in the direction of harnessing internet based learning technologies for the purposes of conflict resolution and peace education.

“Specifically, the creation of a common course between the Rotary Centers will create a global space for learning and disseminating best practice in techniques of peacemaking, peacekeeping and peacebuilding,” adds Woodhouse, also the academic director of the University of Bradford Rotary Center for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution.

Launched in 2002, the Rotary Centers program supports master’s degree studies in fields related to conflict resolution, negotiation and the root causes of conflicts. The program is equipping the next generation of global and community leaders with skills needed to reduce the threat of war

and violence. Up to 60 Rotary World Peace Fellows are selected every year in a globally competitive process that begins when they apply through their local Rotary clubs.

In addition to Bradford, the Rotary Centers for International Studies are located on the campuses of International Christian University, Japan; Universidad del Salvador, Argentina; the University of Queensland, Australia, the University of California-Berkeley, Calif.; and - in a shared arrangement - Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Also present at the meeting were representatives of the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, which hosts Rotary’s three-month Peace and Conflict Studies Program for mid- to upper-level professionals in governments, nongovernmental organizations, and private corporations.

Rotary is the world's largest privately-funded source of international scholarships and has more than 30,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and geographic regions.

§ Cleaning The School Chemistry Laboratory

On the 18^th of November 2008,it was during the school holiday. We clean the school chemistry lab from 8 a.m. to 10a.m. We had plan to clean this laboratory because previously we had clean the physics and biology lab. Interactors clean the lab’s apparatus which are not wash for a few months. Some interactors sweep the floor. Some of them wiping the windows, table, chairs , and also the ceiling fan. We also helped the teachers to arrange the apparatus and other equipments. We found lots of rubbish under the table. Many students dumped their rubbish in the drain under the table. Luckily we found out earlier and clean the drain to prevent mosquito from breeding in the drain. After cleaning the lab, we dismiss.

§ Attended 40^th District Interact Conference

On 21^st till 23th of November, The 40^th District Interact Conference was held. It was located at Kompleks Rakan Muda. Many interactors from all over district in Malaysia attended the conference. It was estimated around 500 participants who participate in this event. It was an outstanding event. Interactors got to know each other and share their experiences being an interactor. We also enjoyed ourselves with the rotaracters. Rotaracter Bernard play with us a game so called “Moo Moo Game”. Everyone were trying to figure out what was the correct answer. Besides, we learn lots of moral value from the conference. We also learned a little knowledge about business strategy. During the presentation, they were very courageous and full of confidence. There were also debate competition among the interactors. They were debating with full of passion to win for their team. In addition, the food served there was mouth-watering. There were lots of games too and it was enjoying. At the end of the camp, interactors took photo among themselves and exchange contact. We hope to attend the conference again.

· Kindergarten Sports Day

On Sunday, 26 October 2008 , a kindergarten sports day is held. It was held by the Merry Child kindergarten school for all the kids. The event took place at Eng Ann court. Interactor arrived there earlier to help the teachers to prepare and set-up equipment for the sports day. Among the teachers of the kindergarten are Mrs. Gumeet and Miss Wong. The event started at 9 a.m. By that time, around 100 kids are present that day including their parents. The events are telematch among the kids. Children were enjoying themselves and some of them even play with us. After the telematch, trophies and prizes were given to the kids. The events end at 12 p.m. Interactors were given phone casing as a appreciation for the interactors.

· Attended Festive Cheers

On October 18, Saturday, Festive Cheers was held at Dewan MPK Teluk Pulai , Klang , Selangor. The event started from 2.30p.m. to 6.30p.m. It was held at ICC level to help those who need help and to celebrate Deepavali Celebration. Performances, singing and games are performed by interactors from different schools. Our vice secretary, Fung Jia Jun played guitar while singing a song “Hey There Delilah”. We also distributed the cards which was made by the kindergarten kids last month to the disabled kids. At the end of the event, hampers and some money were given to disabled people.

As usual, we will celebrate our teachers birthday every month with cards and presents.

Rotary’s fight against polio comes "Full Circle"

Evanston, IL (20 October, 2008)— "Full Circle," a thought-provoking exhibition of photographs centered on Rotary’s final stand against polio took place last week at the Menier Chocolate Factory art gallery in London.
The fight against polio was illustrated through the photographs of London polio survivor and advocate Gautam Lewis, who traveled to his birthplace of Kolkata, India to immunize children against the disease. The massive global undertaking of polio eradication led by Rotary and its partners was further developed through the images of photographer Jean-Marc Giboux, who has documented the battle against polio in its remaining strongholds of India, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan throughout the past decade.
Abandoned after contracting polio at age three, Lewis spent two years living at Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, followed by two more years of operations at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children. Lewis was later adopted by Dr Patricia Lewis, a dual national (UK/Ireland) nuclear physicist, and raised in New Zealand and London— his life developing in stark contrast to his days as one of India’s poorest children. After learning about Rotary’s work to eradicate polio, he became inspired to help Rotary end the disease forever. The weeklong photo exhibition, jointly organized by Rotary International and Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI), was attended by more than 350 people. More than 100 people attended the launch reception, including the High Commissioner for Pakistan, representatives from the World Health Organization, DFID, Sightsavers, The Stroke Association, and the UK Department of Health. To date, Rotary has contributed more than US$700 million toward eradicating polio, a figure which will rise to more than US$850 million by the time the world is certified polio-free. Rotary members have helped immunize over two billion children in 122 countries and are currently working to raise US$100 million more to match a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the same amount.

Briefly note:

We were asked to gather at the school by the president. From there, we walked to the old folks home. Some of the members brought cakes and jelly for the old folks. Everyone was given a task such as moping the floor, sweeping the floor, wiping the mirrors and others. As usual, our Rotarian Advisers were invited to tag along in our project. We were happy because Rotarian Heng turned up. As for Rotarian Richard, he wasn’t able to make it because he was busy on that day. Mr. Tham, the superintendent made us some syrup juice. While we were taking a break, a man was being asked by the superintendent to cut the grass using his machine. After taking a rest, we cleaned up the whole place and went into the house. We hand shake with the old folks there and took a picture with some of them along with the house helper there.

Visiting Merry Child kindergarten to do “Deeparaya” cards

There were 28 pupils from the kindergarten who participated in the event. All of them were 6 years old. Each pupil was given a piece of a4 paper. They were then being guided of what to draw. All the interacter were given the instruction to guide all of them evenly. Rotarian Richard and Rotarian Heng were there too to monitor and support our project. One of our members coincidently found out that a little girl’s birthday was on that day too. Form 6 committees were asked to buy a cake. They ended up buying a cake and getting 2 cakes for free. This is because the bakery shop owner was kind and knew that we were buying cake for a pupil in a kindergarten. After all the students had finish drawing, we celebrated that pupil’s birthday. Everyone sang her a birthday song and had a cake-cutting ceremony. We collected all the drawing and went back around 4.45pm. The drawing will be make into a card and given to the disabled kids during Festive Cheers.

Rotary kicks off major fundraising drive to eradicate polio

World Health Organization declares polio eradication top operational priority
LOS ANGELES (June 17, 2008) -- In the final push to rid the world of a crippling and potentially fatal disease that has plagued humankind throughout history, Rotary International today launched its US$100 Million Challenge, a fundraising effort to end polio worldwide.
Funds raised will match, dollar-for-dollar, a challenge grant recently awarded to Rotary by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation -- a funding agreement that will provide $200 million to the global health initiative over the next three years. Rotary is also expanding its reach by establishing a Web site to accept donations from individuals outside the organization interested in helping eradicate polio: www.rotary.org/endpolio
Since 1985, ending polio has been Rotary's top philanthropic goal. Since then, polio cases have been slashed by 99 percent worldwide. "While most of the world is polio-free, this vaccine-preventable disease still threatens children in parts of Africa and South Asia," said Robert Scott, chair of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. "And because polio is a virus that moves from child to child, it is capable of re-emerging anywhere in the world if we let down our guard. Rotary is committed to eradicating this disease once and for all."
"Rotary International is a global leader in the fight to eradicate polio, and I have no doubt that Rotarians worldwide will rise to this challenge," said Dr. Tachi Yamada, President of the Gates Foundation’s Global Health Program. As part of a joint keynote address by the leaders of the spearheading organizations of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) to an international audience of 20,000 Rotary members at the volunteer service organization’s convention in Los Angeles, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Margaret Chan said, "Today, I am making polio eradication the top operational priority of the WHO. We have resolved the technical challenges to polio eradication, but we still need to overcome the remaining logistical and financial challenges to delivering the vaccine to every child.”
Polio eradication -- which hinges on vaccinating all children under the age of five years -- is seen as a model and a test for reaching children worldwide with other benefits, whether health or development-related. "It's not just about eradicating polio," Dr. Chan continued. "It's about our ability as a society to reach all children to attain the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals."
"Rotary’s $100 Million Challenge is a continuation of their longstanding commitment to protect every child from this devastating disease," said Dr. Julie Gerberding, Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). "If not for the generosity, passion and leadership of Rotary members worldwide, it is safe to say that we would not be at the point we are today."
Since the launch of the GPEI in 1988, when polio paralyzed more than 350,000 children in 125 countries, cases have been reduced to 1,307 in 2007, and just four countries remain polio endemic (Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan). A two-year intensified effort was started in 2007 to eliminate the last vestiges of polio in these remaining areas. Since then, polio has been stopped under extreme conditions -- conflict-ridden Somalia is now polio-free and the most endemic part of India has seen a dramatic decline in cases (from 520 in 2006 to one so far this year).
"The progress made in some of the most challenging areas of the world proves that with enough commitment and support, we can end polio worldwide," said Ann Veneman, Executive Director of UNICEF. "We hope that the commitment from the private sector will challenge other donors to step up and make sure we have the resources needed to eradicate polio."
As the volunteer arm and top private sector contributor to the GPEI, Rotary has contributed US$700 million since 1985 -- a figure that will increase to $850 million when polio is eradicated -- along with countless volunteer hours to the protection of more than two billion children in 122 countries.
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is spearheaded by national governments, WHO, Rotary International, the CDC and UNICEF. The Initiative currently faces a funding gap for 2008-09 of US$490 million.

The Merdeka Run

On 31st August 2008, all interacters from eight schools attended the event. Everyone were enjoying themselves and having a good time together. The purpose of this event held is to celebrate our 51st independence day and show love for our country. Besides, interacters got to know each other and also foster our friendship among ourselves. Many activities have been carried out during the day such as walking around Klang, carrying banners , performances by interacters and many other enjoyable activities.

Projects done for last month(school level )
Cleaning The School Labs
This project was carried out by interacters after school time. Interacters volunteered to clean the labs as it have not been clean for a long time. We work together to clean the lab by sweeping the floor, wiping the window, cleaning the fan and lots of stuff which are dusty. The school labs looked clean and tidy after we done our job.

Projects for this month(September):
· We will be having our visit to old folks home to help them cleaning their compounds. This projects will be carry out monthly to give happiness and love to them.
· Interacters will be celebrating teacher’s birthday monthly. The purpose is to show our appreciation for our teachers who put full effort in guiding and teaching us.
· The club will be making T-shirt and tie for the interacters.

What Is Famine

-Famine is a prolonged food shortage that causes widespread hunger and death. Throughtout history, famine has struck at least one area of the world every few years. Most of the developing nations of Africa, Asia, and Latin America have barely enough food for thier people

-Roughly half a billion people on earth are seriously malnourished, either having too little food or from eating the wrong food. Effects of famine are death and diseases.

-Famine 5 is giving an exposure to participants on wht it means to go without food. Besides that, it foster better understanding among fellow interactors in the district about the different cultures of the people in the world.

South Korean businessman to lead Rotary into its 104th year

Dong Kurn Lee to become the first Korean to head Rotary International
(EVANSTON, Ill., USA, July 1, 2008) – Dong Kurn Lee, president of Bubang Co. Ltd in South Korea, took office on July 1 as president of Rotary International, a volunteer service organization with more than 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
Lee will target childhood mortality as his top area of focus. “We will keep our minds firmly on our goal that is to save the lives of children,” Lee says. “Rotary will turn the dreams of a safe and happy childhood—a childhood that becomes a long and healthy life—into a reality because all of the world’s children, are our children.”
In addition to reducing childhood mortality, Lee is also dedicated to the global effort to eradicate polio, Rotary’s top priority. He has traveled around the world, including India, to immunize children against the crippling and potentially fatal disease which still threatens children in parts of Africa and South Asia. Since the launch of Rotary’s PolioPlus program in 1985, Rotary members have helped to immunize more than two billion children in 122 countries. As the lead private sector contributor and volunteer arm of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative – a public/private partnership spearheaded by the World Health Organization, Rotary International, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and UNICEF – Rotary has contributed US$700 million and countless volunteer hours to the cause.
Rotary’s recent funding agreement with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will provide another US$200 million toward ending polio over the next three years - another milestone in Rotary’s 20-year legacy of polio eradication work.
Lee will emphasize three other major humanitarian issues: literacy, hunger relief, and clean water. During his one-year term, Lee will encourage Rotary clubs around the world to partner with local governments and non-governmental organizations to initiate projects that improve literacy rates and provide sustainable sources of food and clean water to communities in developing countries.
A graduate of Yonsei University with a degree in political science and diplomacy, Lee currently serves as Trustee to the Busan College of Information Technology and has served as past president of both his high school and college alumni associations. He has served as a Trustee to the Bank of Seoul and honorary consul of Italy in Korea. In 2005, he was appointed as International Goodwill Ambassador by the President of the Republic of Korea.Lee joined the Rotary Club of Seoul-Hangang in 1971 and has served Rotary International as board director and Rotary Foundation trustee. He was chairman of the Polio Eradication Private Sector Initiative in Korea.
Near the end of his term, Lee will host Rotary’s 2009 international convention, set for June 21-24 in Birmingham, UK. President Lee hopes that the convention will draw about 30,000 Rotary members from around the world.
Founded in Chicago in 1905, Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service and help to build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary’s global membership is approximately 1.2 million men and women who belong to more than 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

WHAT IS THE INTERACT CLUB?

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.
Club membership varies greatly. Clubs can be single gender or mixed, large or small. They can draw from the student body of a single school or from two or more schools in the same community.
Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of

Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
Advancing international understanding and goodwill

Installation was held at KEC( Klang Executive Club ). Eight schools from Klang participated for the event. The new coming BOD were guided by Rotarian in the morning section. Batu Unjur school attended the BOD installation for the first time. At noon, interacters attended the installation program. Many interacters got to know each other and enjoy themselves.
